Auto & Truck Accidents

Car and Truck accidents cause numerous injuries everyday. Your injuries may range from relatively minor to serious injuries, including brain injury and wrongful death. Most auto accidents are caused by the negligence of other drivers. When someone is injured in a car accident, many questions arise. How will my car be repaired? Can I get a rental car? How will I get medical treatment, and who will pay for it?

In a typical lawsuit involving an auto accident, the driver of the vehicle deemed to be at-fault for the accident will be sued by the other driver involved. The lawsuit may also be brought by the passenger of the at-fault driver. At Rowe and Hamilton, our attorneys will help you recover compensation including damages for:

  • Medical expenses
  • Your vehicle
  • Depreciation of your vehicle due to the wreck
  • Pain and suffering
  • Lost wages, including future wages
  • Long – Term or permanent injuries suffered

What to do after the accident?

  • Remain at the scene of the accident until the police authorize you to leave. Depending on the amount of damage or injury called, leaving the scene could result in a charge of “hit-and-run.”
  • If someone on the scene is injured, try to help. If you are trained and can administer first aid to the injured. When reporting the accident, let them know if anyone is injured on the scene. This will allow them to contact the proper authorities to help the injured. If you are on the road, use your flashers or flares to make sure you are easily seen.
  • Exchange and obtain information with all drivers involved. You will need to get the other driver(s) name, address, driver’s license number, insurance information, and license plate number. If there are witnesses, get their name, number, and address. If a police officer is on the scene, get their business card. If there are weather or road conditions that are not ideal, take notes or pictures. You may also wish to take notes about how the accident occurred.
  • You should not admit fault in an accident. The police officer on scene will make that determination after reviewing the situation.
  • Some people do not realize they have been injured in the accident, so receive medical attention if you feel you have potentially been injured in any way. Delay in medical treatment can make your injuries worse, and give the at-fault driver cause to doubt your injuries were actually caused by the accident and not another event.
